Welcome to our interactive blog, where we're about to unravel the secrets of sealing standup and flat pouches! Whether you're a business owner venturing into the world of product packaging or just curious about the process, this guide has got you covered. From choosing the right pouch to understanding the significance of no minimum order quantity, let's dive right in.

Choosing the Perfect Pouch: Standup vs. Flat

Standup Pouches: Standup pouches are incredibly versatile and popular for a reason. They stand on their own, making them perfect for displaying your product on shelves or countertops. They're commonly used for snacks, pet treats, powders, and more. When choosing standup pouches, consider the following:

  • Size: Choose a size that accommodates your product comfortably.

  • Closure: Decide between zippers, resealable tapes, or heat seals.

  • Material: Opt for barrier films to maintain product freshness and prevent external factors from affecting your product.

Flat Pouches: Flat pouches, also known as three-side seal pouches, lay flat and are often used for items like sauces, spices, or single-use products. When working with flat pouches:

  • Content: Make sure your product suits a flat presentation.

  • Customization: Flat pouches offer ample space for branding and information.

Sealing Techniques for Pouch Perfection

Heat Sealing: Heat sealing is the most common method for sealing pouches. It involves applying heat to a specific area of the pouch to melt the layers together, creating a secure seal. Heat sealing works best with materials like polyethylene, polypropylene, and laminated films.

Steps: Set the machine to a lower setting and adjust higher if needed*. Fill the bag with desired contents (avoid getting any product into zipper area and do not over fill the bag). Gently run your fingers across the zipper to close the bag securely.

Zipper Sealing: If your pouch comes with a resealable zipper, it's essential to ensure a proper seal along the zipper line. This keeps your product fresh and prevents leakage. You can do with Band Sealer

Impulse sealers :Impulse sealer does not need a warm-up time and heating. It seals by applying an energy pulse to the sealing area. It immediately followed by cooling. Impulse sealers only use electrical power when the jaw is lowered. We recommend impulse sealers for any thermoplastic material like polyethylene (PE). You can also use it on polypropylene (PP), which requires lower seal temperatures

Pressure Sensitive Sealing: Pressure-sensitive seals are often used for flat pouches. They rely on pressure-sensitive adhesives that are activated when pressure is applied, creating a secure bond.

Hand pressure heat sealer :It uses power as long as the machine is turned on. Direct hot sealers have better heat penetration to seal thicker materials. We recommend direct hot sealers for ingredients such as aluminum foil coated and cello films. You can also use it for gusset bags, layered kraft paper, waxed paper, cellophane, and other thicker materials.

What temperature should I heat seal?

The sealing process, as described earlier, requires a temperature high enough to melt the plastic to make them join together to form a neat single layer of the seal. So, the recommended temperature for heat sealing is 250 to 300 Degree

What is procedure to seal the pouch ?

To heat seal, you will need suitable materials, which include a heat-sealing machine, and the bag (made up of thermoplastic materials) to be heat-sealed.

The procedures for heat sealing are as follows:

  1. First, a test strip should be heat-sealed. The test strip should be constructed with the same materials as the bag to be heat-sealed. This is done to ensure that a good heat seal is made.

  2. Set the machine’s temperature to a lower set point of 700°F, the recommended temperature for most heat sealing, and adjust higher to 727°F, if needed.

  3. Fill the bag with desired contents (avoid getting any product into the zipper area and do not overfill the bag).

  4. Gently run your fingers across the zipper to close the bag securely.

  5. Place the top of the filled bag between the seal bars, just above the tear notches.

  6. Press down gently for approximately 2-3 seconds and release.

  7. The heat sealer melts the material until it joins together, then sets it into a single, neat layer of plastic. As it cools, the thermal material will contract, tightening the seal.

No Minimum Order Quantity: A Game-Changer in Printing and Packaging

Imagine having the flexibility to order custom-printed pouches without being bound by a minimum quantity. Here's why it matters:

Flexibility: No minimum order quantity means you can print small batches of pouches for testing or special promotions without worrying about excess inventory.

Cost-Efficiency: For smaller businesses or startups, the ability to print only what you need helps manage costs and resources more effectively.

Reduced Waste: Ordering only what you need minimizes the risk of overproduction and reduces unnecessary waste.

Branding: Custom packaging enhances your brand's visibility, and being able to adjust designs for specific occasions or product variations is a branding advantage.
